New recipe

HAMBURGER CHEESE-BAKE: I could eat this every day!
I have been making this recipe for literally decades and have no clue where the recipe came from. But I promise you: It is EXCEPTIONALLY DELICIOUS!! It's different from most hamburger casseroles (not spaghetti-based). And the flavor is full-bodied - - unique without being weird. Give it a try! I just betcha it'll be a family favorite!
Nonstick cooking spray
1 lb. lean ground beef
1 lb Jimmy Dean Sausage (original flavor)
1/2 C chopped onion (1 medium onion)
1 15-oz can tomato sauce
1/4 teasp salt
1/4 teasp garlic powder
1/4 teasp ground black pepper
4 C fat egg noodles, cooked (about 10 ounces)
1 C cottage cheese
4 oz package cream cheese, softened (or just buy the pre-
softened kind)
1/4 C sour cream
1/3 C thinly-sliced green onions (about 3 green onions)
2 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese (fresh is best)
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Directions. . .
Preheat oven to 350. Lightly coat a 2-quart rectangular baking dish with cooking spray; set aside. In a large skillet cook the ground beef, sausage, and onion until meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain. Stir in the tomato sauce, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Remove from heat.
Cook noodles to al-dente, according to package directions; drain.
In a medium bowl stir together the cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, and green onions until combined
Spread half the noodles in the prepared baking dish* (SEE NOTE!)
Top with half of the meat mixture, then all of the cottage cheese mixture, spreading evenly. Top with the remaining noodles and remaining meat mixture. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.
Bake, uncovered, about 30 minutes or until heated through. If you want to make it look fancy, garnish with parsley. I have to tell you that I almost never take the time to "layer" the ingredients. I just mix everything together, pour into the casserole dish and bake. Turns out SPEC-TAC every time!
This is the one I made and I did not layer it.

thread holder

I want to share an idea i had for spools of thread. When I have hand sewing the spool always seems to fall and roll away. I use my old medicine pill containers to hold the thread. Use an awl to poke a hole in the snap on lid. Run the thread up through the hole, snap on the lid and the thread is ready for you to use. no more run away spool.

Makes it easy to take along too.

We will be making trips to Ames for Tom to have chemo so I will be doing some hand sewing while waiting.

It has been a rough couple of months. I pray for God to lay his healing hands on my dear man. j

A break

Hi to all who read here. I am going to need to take a break from blogging. Not sure for how long. Mr T. Has been diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer.

We go Tuesday to find out through a pet scan where and how much cancer is left after the surgery he had on January 19th. What we thought was a small surgical procedure, draining fluid off his lung, turned into a serious surgery to remove the congealed fluid from around his heart and lung. He has healed really well from his surgery. Until 7 months ago ,when he got pneumonia , he was a very healthy man.

We will be making trips to the doctors for chemo. I have trouble right now keeping my mind on the projects at hand.

This man has taken care of me since I was 15 years old. It is now my time to care for him in any way I can. His appetite is good so I am cooking all the things he loves to eat, and he really does love to eat. Picture(taken about 8 months ago) of youngest daughter and our new great grand daughter Alice.

We have faith that God knows the plan for what time we have.  We are praying for a miracle. Take care each of you . j

2016 a new year.

We have not started off our new year the best. Tom ended 2015 with health issues. COPD has been diagnosed. In June he had pneumonia, then was troubled with pleurisy .In Oct he had more pain with the pleurisy.During these months he has had 5 x rays. In June it showed the pneumonia and then the pleurisy.
Thinking things were better till he went out to blow snow just after Christmas and could not catch his breath. Now he is unable to much of anything. We have an appointment Jan.26th to see a pulmanloagist.(sp) They drained a pint of fluid off a sack they spotted in the x ray.Thought we were on the mend but the fluid is coming back. Thus the reason to get to a specialist in Waterloo. We have been told there is no mass. We also have to make a trip to Ames to the thyroid doc for biopsy. Good news that there is no mass but not knowing and having to wait for 3 weeks is not good for his health nor mine. The driving to to cities in 2 days will be exhausting. I pray God's will be done and  for God healing hand on Tom.

I have tried to keep busy but my mind wanders. I have made a couple of Valentine doll dresses. I am thinking of doing a simple strip doll quilt. Something that takes little concentration.

The birds keep my mind busy.

Ziva

Ziva got a bath and hair cut today. She has the hairiest feet on a dog ever. She doesn't like to go but does not make a fuss,Does she look Happy?Nope. She does not like her picture taken.

Look at those hairy feet. She had so much hair on the bottom she kept falling down the wooden stairs to the sewing room,We put carpet on them so she would not get hurt.
It has been a stressful few weeks. Waiting for tests results is NOT a thing I want to do often. Got good results but you know how your mind goes in to dark places. God is good and things will be fine. Have a great week. j

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Well I missed telling everyone Merry Christmas. So I will do it today and wish you all a Happy New Year. It has been busy here since Thanksgiving. Don't ask me why we were busy or what we did but The time just seemed to fly by.
The snow, Christmas day, was beautiful. Ziva was on the porch looking at me taking pictures. She had the "you are really nuts to be out there in your pajamas look" taking pictures. It was so quiet and still no wind and no noise. Not many morning like that in town.

Christmas for the family was supposed to be on Sat. I got ahead of myself and cooked the turkey on Friday.Part of the family came on Friday. So we ate then and again on Sat. and again on Sunday morning before they went home.
The Mn. family did not make it because of the weather.
Here the group are grazing. Some in the dining room

others in the living room playing with toys and video games .

Cam has a new amp. and played for us. Love it!!There was one one asleep on the couch but he asked I not post that picture. LOL.
Thank goodness everyone got here and home before the new storm. I have heard from all and they are at work. Hoping all get home tonight safe and sound.Happy New Year to you all.j
