I love fabric scraps

Yesterday it was time to clean up after projects. There were a lot of scraps. 1 1/2 inches wide with 3 to 5 sewn together. They were the trims off the 300 4 1/2 inch sqs I made. As you can see they were odd pieces but went together well.
I sat down and started stitching them together. I ended up with this cute scrappy quilt. It still needs finished. That will happen this week some time.

There is still a small pile of scraps.

I had seen this pot holder on pinterest.I wanted to do a block like it but had no idea how to get a triangle with the pieces running the right way. Good old google.Tells you how to do just about anything. I found out there are 2 45 degree angles and a 90 degree angle. I did not have that kind of ruler, so I called on Mr T. he looked at my rulers then at my cutting mat and said well there it is right there. Thanks Mr.T. I had 1 1/2 inch strips left over from the project. I sewed them together and made a 4 inch block thinking it would be wide enough to make the potholder block.Nope

I found out that the fabric has to be twice as wide as it is tall.(tall being the point)
Math was never something I understood.General math ok but algebra and geometry nope. Here is the triangle on the cutting mat that worked out perfect.

Of course there were 4 more triangle scrapes. What is a girl to do but make another block! It will make a cute mug rug. I really love messing with scraps. Mr.T. thinks I should stop messing with scraps and use BIG blocks so I get my stash used up. He tells me to throw away the scraps.Silly him!
I am looking forward to Tuesday. An 11 year old girls wants to learn to make a doll.FUN FUN FUN. Stay warm.Have a great week.j

Hexie Quilt

I have been sewing blocks together. I have over 300 4 1/2 inch rail blocks done. I have also been making the blocks for a quilt from the table topper pattern. After i got them all laid out I see I needed 6 half blocks. I went to see what I had in left over pieces. I had enough to do all 6 so I can start putting it together starting next week. Family is coming this weekend so will have to put sewing the quilt on hold. I do have a plan for them to help me lay out the 300 blocks.

I picked up a small bunch of flowers while at the grocery store. They have lasted a long time.Thought I'd share. The mum is just so beautiful. I've been doing some seed searching. Found big beef tomatoes and seedless cukes seeds so will order next week. Spring is on it's way. Stay warm till then j

New sewing projects

I have been keeping busy in the sewing room. It will have to be cleaned soon. I really make a mess doing projects. We got the carpets cleaned in the living room and computer room. Good job done. The steps are left. Maybe tomorrow we will get them done.
I really like to make these table toppers.I have 2 more ready to set together.

This is the first block in a BOM.http://country-threads-chicken-scratch.com/?p=3073
These stacks are odds and ends I cut in 1 1/2 inches strips and sewed them together.Cut them into blocks and they are ready to make a quilt.I need more so as I finish projects I will add the the pile.
This last one is a doll quilt I made. I just wanted to sew something again so started with scraps. I also wanted to try tying a quilt. That is hard on fingers. I'll use floss the next time not yarn.
Hope everyone has a good next week. Stay warm. Spring is on the way. j

making a quilt

After Christmas and the new year I needed to sew.Something ---anything so I started sewing 5 inch sq's, from mother in law's stash, into pinwheels. I intended on making just a small quilt but it turned into a queen size. I used what I had. I did have to buy batting and am ready to put it together.I will tie this one.

I had a few of the side blocks left over so I made a doll quilt.Working out of my comfort zone.Don't do much with pink.

The birds are loving the Christmas tree. It is fun to watch them. I have had a couple of sparrows with a lot of white feathers.I've not seen that before. They love to throw the seed out of the new big feeder onto the ground.
Have a great week j

Our tree / craft and pets.

This year we went to Carlson's tree farm to get a tree. Cam cut it down with a little help and pulled it to the top of the hill.
The tree is not inside this year.We have it on the back patio. I can see it from my chair in the sewing room. It is beautiful. We plan to add bird food decorations.

The sun sets have been beautiful.
Cam's craft project.Aren't they cute?Cam and Ziva are best buds.
