Christmas the meaning for me

I looked up, the word,Holiday in the dictionary, today, because of a discussion about the meaning of the word Christmas. I feel the true meaning of Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ. I commented,to my friend Pat that the president is trying to take Christ out of Christmas. They decided to call the white house Christmas tree a Holiday tree. Pat said that Holiday means holy day so it is the same.
Yes the word holiday means
1 holy day
it also means
2 a day of freedoms from labor; a day set aside for leisure and recreation
3(often plural)[Chiefly Brit.]a period of leisure or recreation;vacation
4 a day set aside by law or custom for the suspension of business, usually in commemoration of some advent

My point was and is that this "advent" was set aside to celebrate the birth of Christ. The reason for this particular "holiday" is the birth of Christ so why are we required to say happy holiday instead of Merry Christmas.

Thanksgiving, halloween, july 4th, are holidays.Do you say happy holiday instead of happy thanksgiving. Maybe some do,that is their choice.

"The Christmas tree is a decorated evergreen coniferous tree, real or artificial, and a popular tradition associated with the celebration of Christmas "
so why is it now a holiday tree not a Christmas tree .The Christmas tree is a custom just like many other customs so what is the reason for those in the white house to change the name?

For those who do not have the belief that Christ IS and will always be the reason for this holiday season. *Go to work*.Turn down all the benefits and gifts and all that has developed into the commercial holiday it has become.
*Pay no attention* to the season.

As for me I will not take Christ out of Christmas by calling it a holiday. I will continue to wish you all a Very Merry and blessed Christmas.j
